About the event

Soumalya Sareswari is 32 years old and he has been practicing Sarod since his childhood under the supervision of pt. Alok Lahiri ji and also his son Shri. Abhisek Lahiri ji. He had worked in the Indian Naval Central Band for 6 years in Mumbai, as a sailor, in the musician department of the Indian Navy. He had finished his service in January 2016 and from then till date he has been working as a sarod player only. Being in defence service, as a matter of fortune, he was given chances to perform at the President house as a solo artist and also along with the Naval Central Band. Raised as a practitioner of Indian Classical Music of 'Maihar' Gharana ; in defence service he got introduced to western classical music and played 'Oboe' and 'Bass Trombone' for 6 years along with Sarod. During his service period as a sailor and after his retirement as a Sarod artist; he has travelled across our country and performed for 'Bits pilani Rajasthan', 'TedX' and a few more and finally his work-base became Hyderabad where he has been working as a core team member for a project called 'Antariksh Sanchar' by 'Red Bull'. He has performed in Kolkata, Mumbai, Gujrat, Chennai, Bangalore, Goa, Hyderabad, Odisha, Pune, Delhi and other cities in India. He worked as a background score artist in movies in Bengali, Telugu and Tamil. He had an amazing opportunity to perform online for 'Utsaah' which is led by vidushi Durga Jasraj ji, the daughter of pt. Jasraj ji. He also got selected as a junior Sarod artist in 'All India Radio' in 2008. In 2023 he travelled to Vietnam and Thailand to perform and in 2024 he became a part of 'Satyajit Ray Musical Archives' and performed at the very prestigious venue 'Kala Mandir' at Kolkata. He gives all the credit to his mother Nivedita Sareswari and his Guru pt. Alok Lahiri ji and Gurudada Shri Abhisek Lahiri ji and 'Sur Sangam Academi of Music' because without them it wouldn't be possible for him to reach such heights in music.
